A little late to the party but we finally have our hands on the India-exclusive Poco M6. The phone starts at just INR 9,999 ($120), which Poco claims makes it the most affordable 5G smartphone ever.
The M6 comes in your typical yellow Poco packaging with a simple design and bold font on the front. The rest of the packaging is very basic; you get a cable and a standard 10W charger inside. There is no case or pre-applied screen protector, which is to be expected at this price range.
The M6 is based on the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ platform. It offers a choice of 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB LPDDR4X memory options and 128GB or 256GB UFS 2.2 storage options. The memory can be extended further up to 8GB using the memory extension feature. The user can also add more storage using the dedicated microSD card slot that exists alongside the dual SIM slots.
The phone has a 6.74-inch 1600 x 720 resolution LCD with a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. There is no fingerprint sensor built into the display. Rather, it is placed within the power button on the side. The phone has a single loudspeaker at the bottom but it does have a headphone jack and also an FM radio application.
The Poco M6 has a dual camera system on the back consisting of a 50MP f1.8 main camera and a depth sensor. The phone can record videos up to 1080p resolution at 30FPS, although there is no image stabilization available. On the front is a 5MP f2.2 fixed focus camera, which can also do 1080p video.
The phone has a 5000mAh battery. The phone supports up to 18W fast charging but as mentioned before, the phone only ships with a 10W charger, and a faster charger will need to be purchased separately.
That’s all for now. Check back again later for a more detailed hands-on review.
