HMD Global is a Finnish company which has been in charge of the Nokia brand since taking over from Microsoft in 2016. A few days ago, we reported that HMD Global has released hints that it will ditch the Nokia brand for its smartphones. One day after the report of ditching the Nokia brand hit the public, HMD Global released official teasers of its new HMD phone on its official website. Now, there are reports two new phones from HMD Global have appeared on the GeekBench database.
HMD Global Legend/Pro
According to 91mobiles, no less than nine new HMD phones appeared in the IMEI database. However, two of these devices have also appeared on Geekbench. This implies that the new phones will be released globally soon. From the Geekbench listing, these two mobile phones come with the names HMD Global Legend and HMD Global Legend Pro. These are most likely codenames because Geekbench rarely uses the real names of devices when they appear on its database.
Nevertheless, the Geekbench listing reveals a few details about these mobile phones. According to the listing, the Legend and Legend Pro will come with 4GB and 8GB of RAM respectively. Both mobile phones come with the Android 14 system out of the box. Under the hood, the listing shows that these devices will use an eight-core 1.61GHz chip. The chip will also integrate a Mali-G57 GPU. The processor is likely to be a UNISOC Tiger T606 chip judging from its configuration.
On Geekbench. the HMD Global Legend has a single-core score of 379 and a multi-core score of 1370. As for the HMD Legend Pro, it has a single-core score of 373 and a multi-core score of 1384. From the scores of these devices, it is obvious that they are entry-level mobile phones. We also expect these devices to be affordable because they will be the first under the HMD brand.
Gizchina News of the week
91mobiles also said that this smartphone (or one of the first batch) may come with a 108MP main camera (with OIS). It is currently impossible to confirm more parameter information about this model. However, Evan Blass (@evleaks) a popular and fairly accurate leakster revealed that HMD’s upcoming mobile phones include Pulse, Legend, Pulse+, Legend Plus, Pulse Pro and Legend Pro. At the moment, the company is preparing for nine models but only two seem to be in the front burner for now.
HMD Global new phone teaser
From the official teasers released by the company, we can discuss a bit about the design of this mobile phone. The teaser does not reveal the display. However, it reveals the sides and we can also see part of the rear as well as the camera module. The overall appearance of the phone is “square-ish”, the sides are sleekly rounded but the top and bottom are flat. On the rear, we can see the “HMD” logo at the centre while the rounded camera module is on the top left. These devices will come with at least a dual rear camera setup. The official teasers show three clear sensor openings but one of these could be for an LED flash. So, we expect two to three cameras on this device.
Since these devices are already on Geekbench, we can expect them to officially launch in the coming months. Unfortunately, there is no other official information on its connectivity, battery, and software.
Conclusion
In conclusion, HMD Global’s potential transition away from the Nokia brand marks a significant shift in the smartphone industry landscape. The emergence of two new devices, tentatively named HMD Global Legend and HMD Global Legend Pro, underscores the company’s commitment to innovation and diversification within its product portfolio.
The appearance of these devices on the Geekbench database provides insights into their specifications. This suggests they may cater to the entry-level segment with their modest performance metrics. However, the anticipation surrounding a possible 108MP main camera and other advanced features hints at HMD Global’s ambition to compete in the increasingly competitive smartphone market. Moreover, the official teasers released by HMD Global offer a glimpse into the design aesthetics of the upcoming devices. It shows a sleek and modern profile characterized by a square-ish form factor and a distinctive camera module layout.
