Google Pixel Phones to Soon Get Adaptive Environmental Touch Sensitivity Feature

[ad_1]

In general, the default touch sensitivity of your smartphone is more than good enough for regular usage. But when you put gloves on, getting a responsive touch experience with your phone can get quite hard. Some manufacturers consider these scenarios and put a “glove mode” on their phones. But turning them on and off manually can be quite annoying. Well, there’s good news for Google Pixel users.

Google is working to make Pixel phones smarter in handling these scenarios. The new Android beta brings an automatic touch sensitivity feature that adapts according to the environment. While it may not sound as exciting as the other smart features Google offers with its smartphones, it can definitely come in handy for many.

More About Environmental Touch Sensitivity Feature on Google Pixel Phones

The new feature was spotted on the Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1. It’s called “adaptive touch.” As Google describes, when you turn it on, the “touch sensitivity will automatically adjust to your environment, activities, and screen protector.” Speaking of which, Google Pixel phones can already detect when you put a screen protector on.

The device asks whether you want to turn “screen protector mode” on, which increases the touch sensitivity. With this, you get a normal touch responsiveness even with a glass on the screen. But with the new beta update, the adaptive touch will also incorporate environmental-based adjustments. It will likely make the phone adjust to rain, snow, or cold environments.

At this point, it’s still unknown which specific Google phones will get it. But we know for sure that the latest Pixel 8 series will get the feature with one of the upcoming stable update rollouts.
