OnePlus debuted the Ace 3 earlier this month in China. While it didn’t come with the latest and greatest specs, the smartphone did bring performance-focused features. As OnePlus says, the phone features tuned hardware to deliver the best performance in any given scenario. Well, the Ace 3 has now landed in global markets as the OnePlus 12R.
Launched alongside the OnePlus 12, the 12R comes with the exact same specs that made the Ace 3 stand as a high-performance device. But there are some minor differences between the two versions. Even so, the 12R is bringing a good level of value to the table, with the starting price at $500 for the base model.
Tuned Hardware of the OnePlus 12R
So, one of the main highlights of the OnePlus 12R is the tuned hardware that it packs. Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. It’s a last-gen chipset, but OnePlus says that the team has spent the last year tuning the chipset to deliver the best possible performance.
That means the OnePlus 12R is capable of offering better performance than the other phones with the same chipset. When compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the new smartphone brings 35% better CPU performance and 25% better GPU performance.
It’s paired with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, which is more than enough for most of the resource-intensive tasks and games. As for the storage, the OnePlus 12R brings up to 512 GB of UFS 4.0, ensuring fast transfer speeds. The Chinese version, which is the OnePlus Ace 3, maxed out at 1 TB, though.
Superior Cooling Setup for Stable Performance
OnePlus has stepped up its game in the cooling department. The 12R comes with an industry-leading cooling system. OnePlus calls it Cryo-Velocity, which features two vapor chambers. One of them is smaller than the other, responsible for absorbing heat directly from the hot components such as the SoC.
The large vapor chamber then absorbs the heat from the smaller one and dissipates it rapidly. OnePlus says that the cooling system of the OnePlus 12R is 76% larger than the OnePlus 11R. To be exact, it can offer a total cooling area of 9140 square mm.
Besides, the cooling structure chamber of the OnePlus 12R is much better. This redesigned structure allows better cooling flow of the cooling liquid. This allows thermal conductivity of over 170W/mK.
Optimized Software of the OnePlus 12R
It’s not just the hardware that enjoys optimization; the OnePlus 12R also comes with software-level optimization. The main highlight is the Trinity Engine, which makes sure that the CPU, RAM, and ROM of the smartphone deliver an enhanced performance.

There are other gaming-centric software features on the OnePlus 12R. For example, it comes with the HyperBoost, which ensures that you get the smoothest frame rate while playing games. Then there’s HyperRender, which calibrates the brightness and backlight while you’re gaming.
The Largest Battery in OnePlus History
OnePlus has packed the largest battery it has ever put into the phone inside the OnePlus 12R. It’s a 5500 mAh cell, which is 100 mAh larger than the company’s high-end OnePlus 12. While the cell has a larger capacity, it has the same physical size. This larger capacity doesn’t make the phone thick.
Another good part of the battery inside the 12R is that it comes with 100W SUPERVOOC charging. This enables the battery to get from 1% to 100% in just 26 minutes. However, the phone doesn’t have support for wireless charging.
To ensure that the battery offers a stable performance for a prolonged time, OnePlus has integrated Battery Health Engine. Paired with the SUPERVOOC S chipset, it ensures that the battery capacity doesn’t quickly degrade even under heavy load. OnePlus says that the battery of 12R can last for up to 1600 cycles.
Flagship-grade Display
The front of the OnePlus 12R equips a cutting-edge display. It’s an LTPO 4.0 panel that features a 120 Hz refresh rate. Thanks to the intelligent dynamic refresh rate feature, it can switch between 1 Hz to 120 Hz depending on what you’re doing. This will not only save battery life but also make the experience smoother.
Besides, the display can get exceptionally bright, boasting a peak brightness rating of 4500 NITS. Also, you get a stunning and immersive viewing experience out of the OnePlus 12R for the display’s 1.5K resolution. It even has Dolby Vision, 10-bit color, and HDR10+.
Camera Setup, Availability, and Pricing
The camera setup of the OnePlus 12R is flagship-grade too. It has the 50 MP Sony IMX890 as the primary camera on the back. That’s accompanied by an 8 MP ultrawide and 2 MP macro sensor. On the front, it has a 16 MP selfie shooter. There are multiple software enhancements to make the smartphone capture detail-rich photos.
As for availability, the OnePlus 12R is available in Iron Gray and Cool Blue color options. The Ace 3 came with a Rose Gold color variant as well, which is not available for the international variant.
Pricing-wise, the base model with 8/128 GB config is $500, while the 12/256 GB model is $800. The OnePlus 12R is currently available for pre-orders on the official website.
