Design

li-oneplus-12-design

The new OnePlus 12 looks nearly identical to its predecessor, the OnePlus 11. It has a similar design, with the difference being the dimensions and the placement of the LED flash on the back. The new device measures 164.3 x 75.8 x 9.2 mm compared to the OnePlus 11’s 163.1 x 74.1 x 8.5 mm.

The OnePlus 12 is slightly longer, wider, and 0.7mm thicker, which explains why the battery has a 400 mAh larger battery. The phone also weighs 15 grams more than its predecessor, weighing in at 220g. The phone’s chassis is made of aluminium and glass on the back, covered by Gorilla Glass. It’s IP65 rated, meaning it’s water and dust-resistant.

It’s worth noting that OnePlus managed to up the IP64 certificate from the OnePlus 11 to IP65 on the new OnePlus 12, suggesting the new flagship is slightly more durable against water and dust.

Display

The new flagship comes with a 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED (ProXDR) display. It’s a 1440 x 3168 panel with support for 120Hz refresh rate. The panel supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and has a peak brightness of 4,500 nits for HDR content and 1,600 nits for general use, which is quite impressive. That brightness level is one of the highest we’ve ever seen on a smartphone, and we can only imagine how good HDR content will look on that display.

Other display features include 2160Hz PWM dimming that can help reduce and eliminate flickers. The device is also TÃœV Rheinland Intelligent Eye Care certified, helping reduce blue light emissions by adjusting the color temperature. The glass panel is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and the top center has a hole punch cutout for a selfie camera that houses a 32MP camera.

Camera

OnePlus has greatly improved its camera setup in the past few years, and the company has partnered with big-name brands like Hasselblad, to help optimize the performance and market its devices. The partnership has helped OnePlus put itself on the map, and the company is now outperforming some of its competitors in the same price segment.

The new OnePlus 12 comes with a triple camera setup, consisting of a 50MP, f/1.6, 23mm primary, a 48MP, f/2.2, 14mm, 144-degree FOV ultrawide, and a 64MP, f/2.6, 70mm periscope telephoto sensor capable of 3x optical zoom. The Hasselblad branding and color optimization, profiles, and features are still here, and th ephone supports 4K at up to 60fps, and 8K and up to 24fps. When it comes to the front-facing camera, the device comes with a 32MP, f/2.4, 21mm sensor.

OnePlus is using a 1/1.4-inch sensor that can absorb 50% more light compared to the IMX890 sensor that was used on the OnePlus 11, resulting in better low-light performance. The company also used ALC Coating IR filter on the lens to help reduce red glare and artifacts. Additionally, the zooming feature has been improved, enabling the device to support 3x optical zoom, 6x in-sensor zoom, and 120X Hybrid Zoom.

Battery

li-oneplus-12-official-5

The OnePlus 12 comes with a large 5,400 mAh battery cell, which is 400 mAh larger than the one in the OnePlus 11. This likely explains why the phone is slightly thicker than its predecessor. Fortunately, OnePlus kept the same 100W SUPERVOOC wired charging capability and improved it. The new battery can go from 1-100% in 26 minutes, which is one of the fastest charging solutions we’ve seen yet.

The OnePlus 12 also supports 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging that should provide 1-100% charge in 55 minutes. 10W reverse wireless charging is also supported, making it great to top up accessories, such as wireless earbuds quickly.

It remains to be seen how the OnePlus 12 performs, but as things stand, we expect to see great results. Especially given that it uses the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the phone should be able to provide at least a similar experience to the OnePlus 11, which did really well in battery tests.
